Typically, don't start off with a spiritual thought, but I wanted to start off with this scripture, because this pretty much summed up my week.
2 Nephi 27 25
23 For behold, I am God; and I am a God of miracles; and I will show unto the world that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; and I work not among the children of men save it be according to their faith.
We had 2 big main events that happened to us this week. One was the salvation of a soul. The next was an apostolic visit. We had our friend Elio who was baptized this last Saturday. One of the best days of my life! I can't tell you how many prayers, and how much time was spent praying and thinking about our friend Elio. He had seen 2 1/2 Years of missionaries come through and teach him. One day me and my companion felt inspired to do a temple tour with him, and this was one of the best lessons of my mission. The spirit was so strong you could touch it. It was on that temple tour and when we were talking about the celestial room when he chose to be baptized. This last Saturday was his baptism. Amazing! The problem was the water was absolutely freezing and our font didn't actually work, so we had to fill up our baptismal font by hand. And that took roughly an hour and a 1/2 before the baptism. Then we did our best to try and put warm water into the baptismal font, but it did not work. And when they both stepped in the water, it was absolutely freezing and Elio is kind of an older guy, so I was really worried, but he took it like an absolute champion. Right after his baptism, he gave one of the sweetest testimonies I've ever heard in my entire life about his journey in the church. Then that following Sunday, I was able to confirm him as a member of the church during sacrament meeting.
The next was when Elder Causse came and visited our mission. The miracle here was the fact we had 12 missionaries here in Brussels. Our train left at 6:36 in the morning. So we wake up and we get everything ready, and we go to the metro station to try and get to the train station to get to Paris and the metro was broken. So we scrambled and we tried to take a bus, but the bus took us in the wrong direction. So we said a prayer and waited for the right bus after telling the bus driver to go a little faster. We were able to get to our train with roughly 2 minutes to spare and we weren't late for the Caussé conference. It was amazing to listen to Elder Causse.
It was actually an insane week. So many things actually happened and I have so much more but I could share, but if there's one thing I've learned up until this point in my mission is that:
God is never too far away that he can't put his hand in our life; it's a matter of if we let him.
Talk to you next week -Elder Smith
